This week we finish our sermon series "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" looking at how some big theological concepts are a part of spreading the story of Jesus. This week Duane takes us through Glorification, something that will happen when Jesus comes back and the world ends.

The world ending is a really popular idea to speculate and tell stories about. What are some ways you've seen or read the world end in pop culture?

Our passage comes from a small book near the end of the inle called Jude. Let's read:

Jude 21-23:

keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

It's a very short passage this week, but was there anything that stood out to you? Intrigued you?

Duane had a doctrinal point and a practical about this idea if Glorification:

Heavens Mercy
Having Mercy

Jude was one of Jesus brother, incredibly, he felt that his brother wasn't just a good guy but a God guy, the God guy and we would do well to put our faith in him so that we can enjoy His return. Juse advises us also about mercy that we are to wait for mercy, to have mercy and to show mercy.

What is the difference between waiting for mercy, having mercy, and showing mercy?
What is a time that you waited for mercy?

Duane pointed out that mercy is not getting what you deserve, and that it's relational. You can only experience mercy in a relationship.

We all try to be good people, but compared to God's perfect goodness our attempts are meager and never enough. Apart from God moving toward us in mercy we would never be able to be with him and definitely not be glorified by him!

Why can't we be with God forever if we just work hard enough?
Why do you think God moves towards us in mercy?

While we wait to experience this great mercy of spending eternity with God and being changed, improved, glorified by Him, we're to do 2 things: keep ourselves in the love of God and tell others about the love of God.

How do you keep yourself in God love?
Why do you think we're told to tell others about God's love?

Our coming Glorification is a huge show of God's mercy. And it will result in an overflow where we should have mercy on people now.

Jude directed us to show mercy to those that doubt and to have mercy with fear.

What does it look like to deal with doubters without mercy? Can you remember having doubts about Christianity, how were those handled? With mercy or without?

Having Mercy with fear seems to be a very strange idea. Duane explained it as a tension of being merciful and connecting with people, and also having a healthy fear of falling back into a life of unrepentant sin.

How do you find that spot where you're actively engaged with sinful people but not sin?

What can we do as a community group to help you show that mercy with fear?

Pray with your group, thanking God for his great mercy and promise of our future Glorification. That he would give us opportunities to show mercy and share His mercy with others this week.
